saving millions in offshore pipe-in-pipe systems around the world

Aspen Aerogels
is redefining the efficiency of offshore pipe-in-pipe systems around the globe
with its insulation that provides 2 – 8 times better thermal conductivity than typical insulations
used. What’s more, Aspen Aerogels achieves this with a lower profile, allowing for the reduction
of outer pipe sizes. This smaller outer pipe size reduces the cost of steel, as well as installation
costs because more pipe can be loaded onto reels on ships, resulting in fewer trips to sea to
complete the installation.

summary of aspen aerogels advantages

  • Low Conductivity Achieves Low U-Value for Pipelines
  • Passive System
  • - Excellent Temperature Resistance
    - No Vacuum Sealing Required
    - Fewer Complexities of System and Assembly
  • Carrier Pipe Diameter and Weight Savings – Usually Several Inches and Tons of Steel
  • - Reduce Installation Costs
    - Reduce Installation Time… More Favorable Installation Schedules

  • Project-Enabler
  • - Enables Local Content
    - More Qualified Vessels
    - Lowest Available Installed Costs

In the traditional pipe-in-pipe construction used for
an offshore oil well, Aspen Aerogels enables the outer
pipe to be reduced by at least one standard pipe size
without impacting the U value of the system. This delivers substantial savings in both steel and installation costs.
Aspen Aerogels provides 2 to 3 times better thermal performance than competing materials used in subsea pipe-in-pipe systems.
